The High School of Glasgow, founded in the 12th century, is the oldest school in Scotland, and the twelfth oldest in the United Kingdom. The school continues to uphold and constantly develop its higher purpose of being an inspiring, independent co-educational institution of learning. Their mission is to be the school of choice in the City of Glasgow and the West of Scotland; a beacon of learning where the all-round capacities of young people are nurtured, challenged and realised within an inclusive and caring environment of mutual respect, positive relationships and obligations.
MSP’s co-founder, John Shaw is an alumnus of The High School of Glasgow. His generous gift enabled the undeveloped top floor of the school’s Science Wing to be converted into four modern classrooms and a flexible space for learning. This building was renamed ‘The John Shaw Science Wing’.
The new learning space encourages students to discover and learn, alone or collaboratively, outside the confines of the traditional classroom, bridging the gap between school and higher education. It is also where the school’s sector-leading START Programme in Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship is delivered.
